Passing of Brother George Gerrick

George G. "Buddy" Gerrick, Jr., 89, of Hanover, passed peacefully on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Hanover Hall. He was the loving husband, for 51 years, of Rosella M. "Rosie" (Brown) Gerrick, who passed away on October 12, 2003.
Born August 9, 1929 in Hanover, he was the son of the late George G. Sr. and Geraldine N. (Bowersox) Gerrick. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Anita Evans and his late life companion, Dot Shaner.
Buddy attended Eichelberger High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served two tours of duty from 1946 thru 1952 first in Occupied Japan and later during the Korean War. He attained the rank of corporal while serving in the military police before his discharge. As a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #520 Union, George worked on the construction of both Three Mile Island and Peach Bottom nuclear power plants. His love of music and marching led him to learn to play the drums as a youth and joined the Lancers Drum and Bugle Corp. Later in life he enjoyed a second career as a D.J. under the moniker "The Riverside Cowboy". George was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, AMVETS and Hanover Home Assn. He also was a member of the Hanover Elks Lodge where he served as a Past Exalted Ruler and was the founder of their color guard. He also served on the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
G.G.G. is survived by his daughter Barbe Gerrick of Hanover, granddaughter Taryn and her husband Jose Garcia; his son Greg Gerrick of York, granddaughter Nikki and her husband Travis Wagman and great-grandsons Lincoln and Hudson; his son Scott Gerrick of New Oxford and his wife Norma, granddaughters Amanda and Lorali, grandson Jakob and great-grandson Austin; his daughter Lori Gross of Centennial, CO and her husband Tom and granddaughters Taylor and Kelsey.
A service to celebrate the life of George Gerrick will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 25 at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA with Rev. David L. DeLong officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Friday from 7 to 9pm and again on Saturday from 11am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover where full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
